Charles Abbott carried out those duties with out complaint. The community rewarded him publicly with awards in appreciation and called him "Scoop" in friendship. He was also a member of the Blackwell Journal Tribune team the year the paper won the coveted Sequoya Award for General Excellence given by the Oklahoma Press Association." He was a member of the Lions Club, B.P.O.E., Moose Lodge and Oklahoma Press Association.
