Melvin Alkema, 87, of Chula Vista died Dec. 16. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich, and was a retired pilot for United Airlines. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association.
Survivors include his wife, Delree Alkema; daughters, Susan Alkema of Albuquerque, NM, and Karen Seiferth of Livingston, Texas; stepdaughter, Carolyn Veuger of Bissonnette, Paris, France; sister, Beatrice Keappler of Dunwoody, Ga; and brother, Lawrence Alkema of Grand Rapids, Mich.
