DEATH OF MRS. W. F. ADAMS
The news that Mrs. W. F. Adams of Poplarville had answered, the call of the Reaper at an early hour Sunday morning, was received with sadness by a large circle of friends in Purvis, where she had resided for a number of years. He death, though not unexpected, came as a shock to this community and the tribute to the loving esteem in which she was held, was manifest in the large attendance at her funeral, conducted at the Methodist church by her pastor, Rev. J. E. Williams of Poplarville, assisted by Rev. M. K. Thornton, pastor of the Baptist church there, and concluded with the funeral rites of the order of Eastern Star at the Purvis cemetery.
The personal tribute to the Christian character of Mrs. Adams by the two officiating clergy men found response in the hearts of Mrs. Adams' many friends here, where her social and religious graces were remembered.
The floral offerings sent to the church were many and beautiful. The concluding prayer at the church and the benediction at the grave were by Rev. W. H. Lane, pastor of Purvis Methodist church.
The pallbearers were S. A. Oakley, J. A. White, E. W. Bilbo and T. A. Rawles of Poplarville and E. J. Calhoun and Joe A. Bennett of Purvis
The burial service by the order of Eastern Star was solemn and touchingly beautiful. It was participated in by members of the order from both the Purvis and Poplarville chapters.
Mrs. J. T. Garraway, and Mrs. H. L. White, worthy matrons of their respective chapters each took leading parts in the conduct of the funeral service. Those who had assigned parts in the ritualistic service were, Mrs. Rawles, associate conductor; Mrs. H. K. Rouse, chaplain; Mrs. J. A. Bennett, Ruth; Mrs. R. H. Stewart, Ester; Mrs. S. M. Kosh, Martha; Mrs. A. Q. Broadus, Ada; Mrs. R. O. Carver, Electra; and Julius Moody, Worthy Patron.
Mrs. Adams before marriage was Miss Ella Lee Smith. She is survived by her husband, five sons, Bryan, James, Guy, Claude and Willis; three brothers, J. A. Smith, Pell City, Ala.; W. B. Smith, Beaumont, Miss and S. J. Smith, Natchez, all of whom were present at her funeral, and by one sister, Mrs. A. C. L. Stone, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
