Barbara was born on June 16, 1917 in Westbrook. She was the only child of John Herrick and Berniece McKeague. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1935.
She married Ralph Emerson Aaskov, the love of her life, on April 12, 1941. During World War II, she moved to Colorado to be with Ralph while he was trained in photography for duty in China with the Flying Tigers.
Barbara was a stay-at-home mom while her three children were growing up. In later years, she worked at Pratt Abbott and retired from Unum.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, recently receiving her 50 year pin. She was also a member of the Central Square Baptist Church in Portland.
Mrs. Aaskov is survived by her three children. She is survived by seven grandchildren as well as 11 great-grandchildren. (Portland Press Herald 7/12/2011)
