The infant son of James Abel and Mary Cattanach. Rae was an unusual name, but it was in honor of his paternal grandmother's maiden surname.

Monticello Express Thursday January 17, 1895

Rae Abel, the baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. James Abel, died last Sunday morning, of acute bronchitis. The little one was born August 6, 1894, and was consequently 5 months and 7 days old. This is the first death in a family of nine children. The taking away of the baby, the pet of the household, leaves a desolate home where the only comfort is a belief in immortality--a belief that its innocent soul will live and grow and wait for those that must surely follow. The funeral was conducted at the family home, last Monday afternoon, by Rev. J.W. Davis of the Congregational church. The family desires to thank the kind friends for their attention.
