Mrs. Pat Douglas, age 75, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Friday evening, June 5, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Born in Waycross, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James William and Gernell Thornton Abell. Moving to Fernandina in 1950, Mrs. Douglas had been a longtime member of Five Points Baptist Church where she was active in many roles to include, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, visiting shut-ins, working with the children's church and helping anyone that she could. She will be missed by the many lives that she touched.

Mrs. Douglas is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ben Taylor, who passed away in 1997. She leaves behind a son, Dale Taylor (Irene), Rutherfordton, NC; three daughters, Charlotte Myers, Fernandina Beach, FL, Cynthia Ryals, Fernandina Beach, FL, Angela Davidson (Jimmie), Callahan, FL; a sister, Maxine Blackmon (Jimmy), Wilsonville, AL; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two nieces and two nephews. In 1998, she married Mr. Vernon Douglas, who passed away in 2003.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. on Monday from Five Points Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Brown, officiating. Mrs. Douglas was laid to rest in Hughes Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sammy Grainger, David Long, Joshua Potts, Jimmie Davidson, Joey Ryals, Dennis Kennedy, Ray Smith and Bobby Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were: Elmer Murray and Sid Hale.
