Born December 16, 1929 to Seth and Orvilla (Sweetin) Heathcock. He was born and raised in Krebs. Gene graduated from McAlester High School in 1949. He graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College and received a B.A. from South Eastern Oklahoma State College. Gene served in the U.S. Army. He served fourteen months in Korea receiving the Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Service Star. He then served in the Oklahoma National Guard retiring after 33 years. He was commander of the 45th MP Co. in McAlester as well as Eufaula, Hartshorne, and Allen Units. Gene married Alberta Mae Talley December 20, 1951 in Krebs. He retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant where he worked as the Boiler Foreman, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of the Harrison Powers American Legion Post #79, where he formed the American Legion Military Honor Guard performing over 200 military services. Gene was a member of Krebs First Baptist Church. Gene was a 32nd degree Mason, Lodge #96. Gene was active in community projects in Krebs and surrounding areas; he was honored to have the Krebs Community Center named after him. He was instrumental in getting the Viet Nam War Memorial at Chadick Park. He is Survived by his Wife, Alberta Heathcock of the home; Sons, Gene Heathcock, Jr. and wife, Diane of Denton, Texas, Dan Heathcock and wife, Kay of McAlester, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Lauren Heathcock of Denton, Texas, Caitlin Heathcock of Denton, Texas, Jake Heathcock of St. Louis, Missouri, Jacqueline Heathcock of McAlester, Oklahoma, Breyanna Heathcock of Savanna, Oklahoma, Abby Gail Heathcock of Savanna, Oklahoma; Three half-brothers; Three half-sisters; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Orvilla Heathcock; twin brother, Jack Heathcock; son, Joe Kent Heathcock in June of 2010. Active Pallbearers will be Ralph Lalli, Jerry London, Lenard Loudermilk, Don Hudson, James Gray. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mitch Lindsey, Ansel Bennett, Harry Bennett. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bache-Red Oak Cemetery Association, c/o the First National Bank and Trust, Co. for purposes of upkeep. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Bishop Funeral Service. Services will be 2 pm Monday, October 25, 2011 at Krebs First Baptist Church with Bro. David Stanfield and Bro. Ed Garrett officiating.
