Mrs. Clara Abernathy passed away June 29 at a hospital in St. Louis. The former Miss Clara Shelton was born near Lutesville April 24, 1893.
She was married to P.M. Abernathy, who preceded her in death 30 years ago. They moved from Lutesville to Illinois shortly after their marriage.
She is survived by six sons, Philletus Abernathy of Granville City, Ill.; Leland Abernathy of Madison, Ill.; Homer Abernathy of Granite City, Ill.; Silas Abernathy of Pittsburg, Calif.; Donald Abernathy of Madison, Ill.; and Orville Abernathy of Granite City, Ill.; one brother, Hubert Shelton of Granite City, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, seven brothers; one daughter and one son preceded her in death.
The body was taken to Madison, Ill. for funeral services on Wednesday; she was then brought to Baker Funeral Home in Lutesville. Graveside rites will be today (Thursday) at Dry Creek Cemetery southwest of Lutesville, conducted by Rev. W.O. Liley.
