Peachy was a newlywed when she celebrated her 15th birthday. She
married James Powell on June 15, 1846 in Tuscaloosa Co. AL (most
likely at Northport). When the census taker came around in 1850, they had two children (Martha A. and Eliza J.) with them at District 2 (most likely Northport) in Tuscaloosa Co. AL. A short time before the census taker came around in 1870, James L. Powell died of
"consumption" (terminal TB) in Marion Co. AL. The census taker found Peachy E. Powell at or near Pikeville in Marion Co. AL (Western District). Peachy and James had nine children: 3 girls, then 3 boys, then 3 more girls. The older 3 girls (Martha, Eliza, Caresy) were not with her on the 1870 census, so I suppose they had already married. The other children were at home with their grieving mother: John W. (15), Joseph A. (13), James L. (11), Rebecca E. (8), Peachy E. age 6 (her name was written as just "Emeline" in the 1880 census), and Julia A. (age 1). [I don't know how Peachy managed.]

I believe Peachy's husband James L. Powell was a brother of my Great-Grandfather Powell (Hezekiah Powell who signed his name H. K. Powell)
who was a constable and bailiff in Northport after the Civil War. Hezekiah married Caroline Stapleton and they are buried at Old Robertson Cemetery at Northport in Tuscaloosa Co. AL. If you go to
Tuscaloosa, cross the river into Northport and look up Lackey Stephens who has an art studio (he is a local historian who knows everything). Be sure to visit the SHIRLEY home which is a tourist attraction and/or historic site. --Mary Alice Abernathy Meyer
(I'd love to hear from Powell and Lindsey cousins.)
