He drowned while on a fishing trip at Syfrett Creek a tributary of the Ocklocknee River near Sopchoppy, Florida with his brother-in-law, Archie Alligood and good friend, J. C. Stradley.
He was survived by his wife Rae Taff Adams, sons Charles Chadwick Adams and John Lovick Adams.
He was survived by a brother, Homer Thompson Adams, and four sisters, Johnnie Barker, Inez Raker, Mamie Snively, and Ruth Alligood.
