Shaheed Manjoroe Abdullah, 60, of Rocky Mount, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the VAMC. He was a Vietnam Veteran (1969-1971) where he served in the 25th Infantry Division. Shaheed loved life and never met a stranger that didn't come not to love him. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Elmer Gwynn and brother, Mr. Daryl Gwynn. Survivors: devoted loving wife, Sharmaine Abdullah of the home; loving mother, Jeanine Gwynn of Rocky Mount; three children, Ieshia McBride and husband (Tony), of Fayetteville, N.C., Keena Mitchell and husband (Jonathan) of Rocky Mount, Va., Kevin Edwards of Rocky Mount, Va.; and seven grandchildren; brother Gary Gwynn and wife (Dr. Veronica Gwynn) of Rocky Mount, Va.; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family would like to send special thank-you to the Staff at VAMC. palliative/hospice Unit; 4-J MSICU (step-down units), Carillon Roanoke Memorial Hospital (10-West Unit) and Good Samaritan Hospice, for all the care and compassion shown to our loved one. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, Va., 45 Patterson Avenue. Viewing will be one-half hour before funeral. Rev. Freddy Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Stanfield Mortuary Service in charge of arrangements.
