James G. Acker, 81 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard.Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Jim was born on December 20, 1924 in Alliance, Nebraska to George and Helen (Beeson) Acker. He attended school in Alliance, graduating from Bayard High School in 1942. He entered the United States Army Air Corp on April 18, 1944 and served during WWII and was honorably discharge on November 17, 1945.
He married Helen Pullen and to this union they had four children. Later he married Bonnie Ebberson on Feb of 1957 and had four children. Jim was a truck driver and a salesman. He worked for the Great Western Sugar Factory for over 25 years retiring in 1988. He was an active member of the A.A. He also was a member of the DAV, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes, fishing and telling jokes. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife Bonnie; children Karen (Lloyd) Bairn of Gering, Barb (Gene) William of Cheyenne, Jim (Pam) Acker of Cozad, Jaynie (Brian) Wells of Swansea, IL and Donna (Bill) Sterkel of Gering; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter; brother George Acker of Limon, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his three sons Billy, Gary and Bob; grandson Greg Bairn; sister Theresa Helen; brothers Joseph and Lawrence, parents and grandparents.
