Mr. Walter Amos Abbott, Sr., age 87, of College Street, Wilkesboro died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, at 1:00 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Elder Brent Bailey, Pastor Mark Workman, and Bishop C. O. Reid officiating. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 Sunday night.

Mr. Abbott was born in Bostic, NC on October 30, 1924, to James Monroe and Lizzie Mae Thompson Abbott. He served in the US Army during World War II.

Mr. Abbott is survived by three daughters, Patricia Parks of Wilkesboro, Deborah Davenport and husband, Walter of Mass., Carolyn Pendleton and husband, Darnell of VA; two sons, Walter A. Abbott, Jr. of Blowing Rock and Antony Jerome Abbott and wife, Betty of Wilkesboro; two sisters, Betty Alexander of Penn. and Hazel Brewton of Shelby; one brother, Robert Abbott of Shelby; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren.
