Funeral services for Earl L. Achenbach, 84, Cedar Bluff, were held July 6, at Sheets and Son funeral home in Tipton, with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Joe Mallie was the vocalist and Mrs. Ruby Phelps was the organist. Pallbears were Charlie Albaugh, Marvin Albaugh, Claude Oler, Harry Dodds, Claude Mitchell and John Crowley. Burial was in the Mason cemetery at Cedar Bluff.
Mr. Achenbach died July 3, at the Solon Care Center following a brief illness.
The son of Alexander and Mary Schutt Achenbach, he was born July 31, 1900, near Cedar Bluff. He attended the rural Cedar county schools and married Helen Stine March 9, 1924 in Tipton.
He was a retired farmer, a past member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau and past president of a rural school board.
Mr. Achenbach is survived by his wife, 6 daughters, Mrs. Frank (Audrey) Nevius, Springfield, Ohio; Mrs. Bob (Alberta) Geiger, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Swanson, Golden, Colorado; Mrs. Eunice Eide, Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. Jack (Florence) Fansher, St. Louis, Missouri; and Marjorie Mitchell, Denver, Colorado; a son, Alex, Lisbon; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Russell (Nola) Howard, Tipton; Mildred Dice, Voga; Mrs. Harry (Velma) Hegarty, Stanwood and Mrs. Roger (Clara) Messner, West Liberty and one brother, Walter, Stanwood.
He was preceded in death by a son, one grandson, one brother and one sister.
