Funeral Mass for Lucille Erickson was held Monday, October 4, 1999 in St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Salem, SD. Fr. Joseph Ripp celebrated the Mass. Burial
was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were all of Lucille's nieces
and nephews. Pallbearers were Ralph Dybdahl, Jerry Gottlob, Jim Gottlob, Pat
Gottlob, John Deters, and Ron Mayrose.
Lucille Gottlob was born September 17, 1916 at Salem, SD to Anton and
Katherine (Schallenkamp) Gottlob. She grew up in the Salem area and attended
St. Mary's Grade School. She worked for four years for the WPA at the McCook
County Courthouse before returning to school and graduating from St. Mary's High
School.
She married Harold Heumiller at Salem on January 29, 1946. She farmed with
her husband near Salem until his death on April 1, 1976. She moved into Salem
in 1978. On June 13, 1981 she married Martin Erickson in Salem. She continued
to live in Salem until her death.
Lucille passed away at her home in Salem, SD on September 30, 1999 of an
apparent heart attack. She had reached the age of 83 years, and 13 days.
Lucille was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers,
Friendly Neighbors Club, and loved to crochet, quilt and play bingo.
Survivors include her husband Martin of Salem, SD; two daughters, Barbara
and her husband Eugene Slaba of Wagner, SD; Joan and her husband Terry Werner of
Columbia Falls, Montana; a foster son, Fred Schallenkamp and his wife Shanon of
Ontario, California; two step daughters, Renne and her husband Earl Crampton of
Ruthland, North Dakota; Dovana Swarthos of Brookings, SD; one step daughter in
law Rita Erickson of Sioux Falls, SD; 8 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 6
step great grandchildren; four sisters, Ila Mae Gottlob of Houston, Texas;
Camilla and her husband Dan Miller of Leeds, Alabama, Betty Ann Smith of Destin,
Florida; and Alice and her husband Duane, Helmberger of Whitesboro, Texas; one
brother in law, Floyd Abel of Warner Robins, Georgia; one sister in law Darlene
Gottlob of Salem, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, two brothers,
Carl and Henry "Bud" Gottlob, and one sister, Mary Lou Abel.
