Annie Nadine Damewood Evans (Brown), 81, of Roanoke, one of this earth's most beloved angels, was carried home to her place with God on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Her warmth and generosity shined like a beacon to all who were lucky enough to have been blessed by her presence. As Chaplain of the Women's Auxiliary for the Roanoke branch of AMVETS, and a devout member of the Red Hill Church of God, Annie dedicated her life to comforting those who needed her most. Annie grew up in Catawba, graduating Cum Laude from Andrew Lewis High School and then from Brandon Secretarial School. She worked at Kenrose for more than two decades and was active in a number of community organizations. In her latter years, Annie was a member of the Avon President's Club, beloved by her customers for her warm smile and caring nature. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed senior trips and loved bluegrass music. Annie was a truly special person a friend to many and loved by all who knew her. While many words come to mind generous, hard-working, loving, empathetic, and selfless all pale in comparison to the integrity of her spirit. While there is now a dark and empty place in our world, Heaven is far brighter for having welcomed her. Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank M. and Hattie May Damewood; her brother John M. Damewood; her husbands, Eual Evans and Luther Brown; her son, Lowell E. Abbott; and her stepson, Wayne Brown. She is survived by her brother, Charles A. Damewood; her son, David L. Abbott Jr. and wife, Mary; her daughter, Kathryn Abbott Thompson; her son, Michael L. Abbott and wife, Nellie; her stepsons James Brown, Larance Brown, and Edward (Buzz) Brown; her stepdaughters, Willie Helms, Mary Lang and Ellen Hayse; her former sisters-in-law and life-long friends, Kathleen (Kitten) Damewood and Rosa Reynolds; and 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
