Donald Aasa (81917730)
TWIN FALLS -- Don passed away Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, after a brief illness with family at his side.

Don was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Weiser, Idaho, to Fritchof (Fred) and Gladys Bickle Aasa, in his grandmother's "Maternity Home," before the hospital was ever built.

Don grew up and attended schools in Weiser and graduated from Weiser High School in 1948. He then met the love of his life, Betty Gentry. They were married in Elko, Nev., in 1951 with her sister, Eileen, and brother-in-law, Mel Brooks, as their attendants. To this union were born two sons, Kent and Gary, and they are their parents joy and happiness.

Don served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonardwood, Mo., from 1955 to 1961. He was honorably discharged and then returned to the Union Pacific Railroad, where he was employed for 37 years, from 1949 to 1986.

Don was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He had two grandfathers that were both known for their individual achievements and Don passed their skills along to his sons. One of Don's grandfather's was a runner and ran for the King of Norway and the other grandfather was a master carpenter and built the first wooden stairway to the top of the Capitol in Boise, Idaho. Don's son Kent, who is the "Runner," works and attends CSI. Gary works for the Union Pacific Railroad, is a carpenter and has built a number of houses.

Don leaves behind many friends and he was always willing to assist a friend in need. He will be missed for his laughter, his friendships and sense of humor.

Don leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Betty; sons, Kent of Twin Falls, and Gary of Shelley, Idaho; grandson, Eric Aasa; and great-granddaughter, Alexis. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Eileen (Mel) Brooks; and brother-in-law, Ron (Pat) Gentry.

His parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

A memorial service for Don will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, with Pastor Dale Metzger officiating. Cremation and Private Inurnment are under the direction of the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.

We all will meet again one day. Farewell and God Bless!
