NEWPORT NEWS - Elizabeth LeGrand Abbitt Bennett, age 91, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.
Born in Victoria, Va., she graduated in 1944 from James Madison University and spent 38 years in elementary education. Her last years of teaching were at Francis Mallory, in Hampton, before retiring in 1980.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dabney
Bennett; and brother, Charles I. Abbitt.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Hazel J. Abbitt; nephew, Charles I. Abbitt, Jr., and wife, Donna and their family; and niece, Bonnie A. Branch and husband, Bob and their family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 3, 2012, at The Chesapeake. Inurnment will be 11 a.m., Jan. 4, 2012, at Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victoria
