Ida Irene Johnson, 98, Minot, formerly of the Coulee area, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

Ida was born Aug. 13, 1913, on the family farm near Donnybrook to Leopalt and Alma (Bruhn) Charnetzki. She was raised on the family farm near Donnybrook, educated at the Stave Township School in Mountrail County and confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Following her education, she was employed for several years in Fargo and Valley City.

Ida married Clarence M. Johnson on Oct. 17, 1934, in Fargo. Following their marriage, Ida and Clarence returned to Donnybrook where they farmed for several years. They moved to Minot in 1948 and Ida was employed as a sales clerk at City Market, Ace Hardware, Chain Grocery and Harry's Variety Store. She managed Minot Beauty and Barber Supply for two years prior to managing Walter's Ready to Wear in the Town and Country Shopping Center for 13 years. They resided in the Del Nor Drive area between Minot and Burlington for many years, and Ida lived there independently until her death. She retired in 1976 and Clarence died in 2008.

Ida was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Coulee, and a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, Women of the Moose, Business and Professional Women's Club, Red Cross, Women's International Bowling Congress and YMCA. She was a volunteer for the Friendly Senior Citizens of Burlington. She especially enjoyed woodworking, crafts (especially designing all-occasion cards), gardening, reading and spending time with her neighbors.

Ida's loving family includes her son-in-law, Calno Webster, of Minot; her grandchildren, DeVane (Kathy) Webster, of Beulah, ReNae (Kirk) Esterby, of Belton, Texas; great-grandchildren, Melody (Kyle) McConnell, Alisha Webster, Callie, Madison and Maxwell Esterby; great-great-grandchildren, Everett and Gabriel McConnell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Gayle Webster; sisters, Agnes Johnson, Lillian Charnetzki, Margaret Charnetzki, Martha Whillock and Myrtle Schwede; brothers, Claudie, Clarence, Leonard and Arvid Charnetzki.

Funeral service: Monday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m., in First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery, Coulee.
