Enlisted as a private July 16, 1917. Assigned to Company K, 43rd Infantry. Transferred May 15, 1918 to the Officer's Training School at Camp Seviers, S. C. On July 19, 1918, he was sent to Machine Officer's Training School at Camp Hancock and was commissioned Second Lieutenant on October 17, 1918. Discharged December 14, 1918.
