Killed by Lightning

John W. Adaway, 47-year-old operator
of the ferry over the Calcasieu
river at Cameron, was killed
by lightning at 6:30 pm. Friday In
the middle of the heavy rain and
thunderstorm which swept the Calcasieu-
Cameron area.
Mr. Adaway was in his home at
the time the lightning struck. A
daughter, standing near
by, was stunned try the same bolt
which killed her father.
The girl fell to the floor but was
not critically injured, it was learned.
Saturday she was reported to be in
a satisfactory condition.
He was employed by a Mr. Welsh
who has a contract to run the ferry,
it was stated.
Catholic funeral services will be
held at the graveside at 4:30 pm.
Saturday in Oak Grove cemetery.
Oak Grove, La. Burial will be under
direction of the Hixson funeral
home.
Mr. Adaway is survived by three
daughters, and one son, John W. Adaway,
Jr.; five brothers, James and
Thomas Adaway of Lake Charles,
Arthur and Gus Adaway of Cameron
and Jack S. Adaway of Port
Arthur, Tex., and two sisters, Mrs.
Eva A. Wolf and Mrs, Edna A.
Gallier, both of Cameron.
