Funeral services were held in Newkirk Tuesday afternoon for John W. Abbott, 83, pioneer resident and merchant of the Kay county seat, who died Sunday afternoon at his home. Mr. Abbott was a native of Missouri, and he made the Cherokee Strip run in 1893. He owned a business in Newkirk since that time. He lived in Arkansas City a year before the strip opening. He made the run in a wagon to Newkirk area. For a time after the land opening he transported produce to Winfield and returned groceries to Newkirk.
