John migrated from his birth place in England to Vermont, living briefly in several states until finally settling Valley Co. Nebr. in 1873 before Garfield Co. was established.

He and his wife Anna, were among the first settlers in this region. He proved up on land, first building a home made of sod, and later built a two-story, part log, and part sod home where the family lived.

He and Anna had five children that we know of: John Wesley Jr. William H., Charles N., Ester Ann (called Hattie) and Martha (called Mattie)

He was buried at Cottonwood cemetery, but if there ever was a marker, it is no longer exists.
