Julia K. Abee Abernethy, 95 of Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton, NC and a former Antioch Rd. resident, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at her home.
Born May 7, 1916 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Roy P. and Mary Hauss Abee. Julia was a loving Christian mother who was devoted to her family. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oran C. Abernethy; sons, Bobby, Larry Joe, Jimmy, and Jerry Abernethy; a daughter, Rebecca Bentley; a brother, Roy Abee; and sisters, Thelma Walsh, Edna Pons, and Beulah Abee.
Surviving to cherish her memory are a son, a daughter, a foster son, eighteen grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
The funeral to celebrate Mrs. Abernethy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Correll officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church for one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at the homes of Leroy Abernethy on Bollinger's Loop, Morganton and of Emogene Franklin on Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton.
