Ernest was a commercial artist for nearly 40 years. He hand-painted billboard signs throughout Minnesota and North Dakota. He also did gold leaf lettering and screen printing. He was a skilled glass-blower and created many neon signs in the 1940s and 1950s. He designed the logo for the City of Dickinson, ND, used during their 75th anniversary celebration.
