Obituary:

Mr. Walker had been in declining health for several years and his death occurred at his home three miles east of town in the 63rd year of his age. His suffering in his last illness was intense but he bore it all with Christian fortitude and died a peaceful death. His wife, nine children--six daughters and three sons--survive him, all of whom were at his bedside when his spirit took its flight, and are now bowed down with grief that he is no more. He was a veteran of the war of '61-5, having served in the Second Virginia Cavalry. Three brothers and two sisters are also left by him--Jesse J., J.E.M., and Major E.T. and Mrs. Rice [Lucie] McGhee and Miss Nannie Walker. The funeral took place at Hickory Grove Methodist Church, of which he was a member, the services being conducted by Revs. R.B. Scott and W.S. Royal. The pallbearers were W.C. Lazenby, M.S. Ninninger, J.W. Hodges, H.L. Updike, J.O. Dobean, C.E. Pullen, and the flower bearers were Mrs. J.W. Hodges and Miss Myrthe Carner.
