Sarah Adams McKinley 1920-2002
Sarah Alice Adams McKinley (SAM) was born on March 14, 1920 on the family homestead 9 miles north and 8 miles west of Springfield. She had fun growing up with her sister Matle and brothers Howard and Calvin. Farm life required her to milk cows, butcher pigs and raise a big garden just to survive. She started school at the age of 5 and attended Frontier School just north of the homestead. Sarah and the rest of the kids worked to help it through the hard times. She graduated from Pritchett High School in 1939. Sarah made her decision for Jesus Christ and accepted Him for her personal Savior when she was 16 years old.
After graduating high school she taught at Two Buttes and Pilot Point and attended college in the summer where she met her future husband on the tennis courts. They were married in 1948. After teaching only one more year, Sarah and Clarence started their family. Elaine was born in 1950, Roger in 1951, Les in 1953, and David in 1959. Her hobbies included bird watching, crochet, reading raising flowers, and going for walks with dear friends. She was a willing participant with the Walsh United Methodist Women.
