CIVIL WAR VETERAN***

[William] fought in the Civil War and was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness. He was discharged from his military obligation because of disability on 17 May 1865.

was baptized and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 14 February 1869 at String Prairie, Lee, Iowa, by Eber Benedict. He was ordained an elder on 19 September 1870 at Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, by Thos. Dobson, J. W. Lewis, and E. C. Brands. William attended the Iowa branches at Davis City and Lamoni.

OBITUARY
William Nathaiel Abbott was born at Lancaster, N. H., September 19, 1832. Was married to Alma P. Billings at Bethel, Vermont, July, 24, 1853. To this union were born five children of whom two died in infancy. John G. died at the age of nineteen, Elizabeth M. who was the mother of May Esmah and James F. Jones died in 1901. William G. Abbott, the only child to survive his father, resided at Gillespie, Illinois.

The deceased served nearly three years in the war of the rebellion in Company A, Third Vermont Regiment, in General Sedgwick's Corps. Was wounded at the battle of the Wilderness and discharged for disability May 17, 1865.

After the war the family located in Illinois and in 1876 moved to this country.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of L. D. S. since Feb. 14, 1869, and was ordained an elder, Sept. 19, 1870. and lived as a consistent and worthy member of the church.

His wife preceded him by seven months, passing away on January 11, 1917.

The increasing disabilities of old age crept gradually upon him and he died peacefully August 14, 1917, aged 84 years, 10 months, and 25 days, Funeral at his late residence. Sermon by John Smith, assisted by H. C. Smith.
