FULTON - Dessie M. Abbott, 84, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Hamilton, Ala., to William Victor and Dessie Jane Clingons Griffus. She was active in many churches. She devoted her time to ministering to people,and lived her daily life with a strong Christian faith. She enjoyed watching Fox News and eating at Kwik Sak.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton. Burial will be in the Shottsville Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Abbott (Sharon) of Tamarac, Fla., Danny Abbott Sr. of Fairview and Jacky Abbott (Debbie) of Fulton; one brother, Wesley Griffus of Vina,Ala.; one sister, Vicky Duncan of Bellville, Mich.; five grandchildren, Angela Abbott of Ireland, Danny Abbott Jr. of Tupelo, Derek Abbott (Brandi) of Mooreville, Ronnie Abbott ( Kristin) of Fulton and Lee Abbott (Ashley) of Fort Rucker, Ala.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special family member, Mary Savage; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Abbott, who died in 2002; three sisters, Jane Graham, Delona Griffus and Myrtle Duncan; three brothers, Brice Griffus, Marlon Griffus and Victor Hazel Griffus; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Abbott, Drae Abbott, Lee Abbott, Donnie Dulaney, Derek Abbott and Danny Abbott Jr.
