LOUIS ASA ABBOTT, 91, 1896 Lincoln Rd., Morrison, died Thursday evening at Morrison Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Renkes-Reynolds Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hughes, pastor of the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, rural Morrison. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday, with Masonic Services being held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Arthritis Foundation.
Born on Aug. 9, 1891 in Ustick Twp., the son of Alfred N. and Sarah Green Abbott.
He was reared and educated in Cottonwood schools and graduated from Mt. Pleasant Twp. High School in 1908 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1914. On June 20, 1923, he married Eunice Pingel in Fulton. Following graduation from college, he returned to the family farm where he resided his entire life. He was a member of the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, a 70 year member of Dunlap Lodge 321 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Sterling Commandry 57 and Scottis Rite Bodies of Moline, as well as Primrose Chapter 363, Order of Eastern Star. A charter member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau, he served as treasurer of the group from 1927 to 1929 and helped organize the Whiteside Service Company, serving as president from 1931 to 1949 and was on the board of the Illinos Farm Supply, the forerunner of Growmark, Inc. He was also the Cottonwood School Director and Justice of the Peace, Ustick School Treasurer for 23 years, a member of the Whiteside County Board of Review and the secretary of the Cottonwood Cemetery Association for many years. As the Republican Precinct Committeeman for 48 years, he was honored as Mr. Republican in Whiteside County in 1976, a member of Illinois Crop Improvement Association for many years and was honored with a trip around the world to observe agriculture in other countries sponsored by the Ford Motor Company in 1960. In 1963, he was voted the University of Illinois Outstanding Alumnus from the College of Agriculture. He was active in the Illinois Hereford Association acting as the state president from 1932 to 1935. Survivors include his wife, Eunice; two sons, Edward and William; six grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and one siter, Mrs. Frances Culver.
