OBITUARY NOTICE:THE JUNCTION CITY DAILY UNION newspaper of Monday, January 4, 1988:
Grave side services for Stephen D. Elmore, 87, of Junction City will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Highland Cemetery. He died Saturday, Jan. 2 at Geary Community Hospital.
Mr. Elmore, a retired head custodian for Unified School District No. 475, was born in Paxico, Kansas, but lived most of his life in Junction City. He married Esther C. Settgast Aug 31, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Esther, of the home; four sons, Allen Elmore of Junction City; Harvey Elmore of Portland, Oregon; Jack Elmore of Salina, Kansas; DeWane Elmore of New Whiteland, Indiana; three daughters, Arlene Bennett of Junction City; Shirley Burk of Portland, Oregon; Donna Alter of Glendale, Arizona; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
His one surviving sister, Jessie Major, lives in South Bend, Indiana. He was proceeded in death by one son, James Elmore, two brothers, and four sisters.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Donald Bennett, Randall Bennett, Stephen Bennett, John Bennett, John Elmore, and David Wietman.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
The Mass-Hinitt-Alexander Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
