STARKVILLE – Horace Adams, 81, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a graduate of Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He served as the first director of Personnel Services of the Jackson Public Schools from 1954-1966 and at Mississippi State University from 1966 until retiring in 1989. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Starkville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church of Starkville. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Park. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lynn Chamblee Adams; a son and daughter-in-law, H. Mark and Libby Pollard Adams of New Orleans; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Robert A. Barnes of Atlanta; grandchildren, Mark Philip Pierce Adams, and Lindsey Claire and Haley Brooke Barnes; a sister, Mary Jo Elizabeth Adams of Henderson, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at the church. Friends may also sign the guest book online at www.welchfuneralhomes.com.

Memorials may be made to the Weekday Ministries Scholarship, Festival of Lights funds of the First United Methodist Church of Starkville or a charity of the donor's choice.
