Garfield City Notes
Peter Otto Palmer was born in Moline, Ill., May 19, 1860. He came to McPherson county, Kans., in 1883, and to Garfield, Kans., in 1885. He lived for a few years in Hodgeman county and for some time near Hutchinson. He returned to his farm northwest of Garfield in 1909, and was married the same year to Miss Augusta C. Nelson, of McPherson. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer made their home on the Pawnee county farm until the year 1918, when they built a house in Garfield and retired from active farm life. Mr. Palmer died on the 23rd of this month at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 4 days. Having lived in this western country for a period of 50 years, he may be considered as one of the pioneers. All the time he lived here, he was affiliated with the Lutheran church and was a regular attendant at the services.
The nearest mourners are the wife, Mrs. Augusta C. Palmer, and one sister, Mrs. Christine Samuelson. The funeral was held from the Lutheran church, Friday afternoon, April 26. The pastor of the church, Rev. Hilding Myreen preached the sermon. A quartet composed of Lester and Floyd Larson, Miss Georgie Irene Peterson and Tureda Olson sang appropriate anthems. A dust storm swept over our county that afternoon, but a large number of friends braved the storm and dust. The floral tribute also spoke of the sympathy of old time neighbors and friends.

The Palmer - Nelson Wedding
The peal of wedding bells has again been heard in our community. Last evening at 8 o'clock, Mr. P.O. Palmer was united in marriage to Miss Augusta C. Nelson, of McPherson. The marriage occurred at the home of the groom's brother-in-law, A.J. Samuelson. Rev. V.E. Holmstedt performing the ceremony. Mr. Palmer is well known among us, having lived here many years. During the summers of '07 and '08, he managed a fruit farm north of Hutchinson, but came to the conclusion that Garfield was about as good a place to live as could be found, his opinion was shared by his prospective bride and as a consequence, he last spring, returned and again took up his abode among us.
Mr. Palmer and his bride have been acquainted from childhood, but for some reason or other have not until now decided to take the step that unites them for life. We extend heartiest congratulations.
