Aged 75 years; 9 months and 20 days; the husband of Marie Julie Prudhomme.

Much confusion surrounds the marriages of EVD with overlapping marriages between Francoise Aurore Metoyer and her cousin, Marie Julia Prudhomme. One genealogical source (Nardini) lists Valery DeBlieux as the widower of Francoise Aurore Metoyer and the biographical sketch below lists her death date as September 25, 1853 (she did not die until September 22, 1875 according to her gravestone); however the 1960 census shows Julia living with Valery and his son by Aurore, Alexandre Louis. Church records also support the birth of Valery and Julia's first child, a daughter, Marie born January 29, 1856, eight months after the marriage contract between Valery and Julia, less than five months prior to the death of the daughter of Valery and Francoise Aurore (Marie Aurore Metoyer).

E. V. Deblieux, one of the foremost planters and wide awake merchants of Natchitoches, was born in this city January 11, 1820, being the son of Alexander L. and Euphrosine (Tauzin) Deblieux. His father was a Frenchman by birth, but was raised in this country, coming when eleven years old to Augusta, Ga., remaining in that State until 1800, when he immigrated to Louisiana. In 1815 he was first sergeant in a muster roll, which marched to New Orleans. After the disbandment of this organization he returned home and entered into the mercantile business, receiving, in the meanwhile, an appointment to the United States Mail Department, which he held for four years. He made a visit to France in 1835. On his return to America he again settled in New Orleans, opening a commission business there, which he conducted for two years, when he returned to Natchitoches, remaining here until his death in 1869. To him and wife (who was also a native of Louisiana) were born six children, two of whom are living and reside in Natchitoches Parish. The mother of this family died in 1842. The senior Deblieux was actively alive to the growth of his parish, being particularly interested in the upbuilding of churches, schools, and society in general. He and his wife were believers in and worshipers of the Catholic faith.

The principal of this sketch received his early training in France and Louisiana, and being left to his own resources, in 1837 he settled upon an 800 acre plantation, and is now the owner of 600 acres, and engaged in planting and merchandising. May 22, 1849, he married Aurora Metoyer, of Louisiana, who died September 25, 1853, leaving to his care the following family: Alexander L. and Aurora (deceased). He was again married, in 1855 to Julie Prudhomme, also of Louisiana, and to this marriage have been born nine children, eight of whom are living: Marie (deceased), Leon, Camille, Jefferson, Stella, Matilda Valery, Julie and Lestan. His second wife died January 18, 1889, in full communion with the Catholic Church.

Alexander Louis Deblieux was commissioned auctioneer in 1823 and 1825, quartermaster of the Eighteenth regiment of militia in 1825, and postmaster at Natchitoches in 1818. E. V. Deblieux is a veteran of the Mexican War, in which he served as second lieutenant.
