Jimmy "Jim" Jay Ammons, 63, died Dec. 20, 2010, in Buena Vista.

He was born Sept. 11, 1947, in Council Grove, Kan., to Irvan Ray Ammons and Norma Charlene Wright Ammons.

He was raised in Kansas with a large extended family. Eventually the Ammons family moved to Frisco, where he spent much time hunting, fishing and working.

Mr. Ammons graduated from the Summit school district and joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist 5.

After his Army service, he went to work for the Reynolds Company in California, where he met and married Donna Anderson. They shared many years together and raised three daughters.

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Mr. Ammons enjoyed fishing, sports and sharing the beauty of Colorado with everyone he could.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Sharon Adkins.

Survivors include his mother, Norma Reece of Buena Vista; sisters, Kay Moore of Buena Vista, Melanie Morgan of Silverthorne and Mary Balfour of Oklahoma; wife, Donna Ammons of Wildomar, Calif.; daughters, Tammy Ammons of Torrance, Calif., Teresa Ayers of Wildomar and Tina Campas of Buckeye, Ariz.

His service will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 8, 2011, at Run
Jimmy enlisted in the U.S. Army June 21, 1966 and was released July 10, 1968.
