Gove County Advocate, Aug. 22, 2001
Island resident, Clarence "Tim" Abell, age 84, died at his Bainbridge Island home July 26, 2001. He was born in Oakley, KS June 22, 1917 to Clarence Peckham and Clara (Kurtze) Abell.

Tim graduated from KS State University, Manhattan, KS in 1939 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1941 he began work at the Boeing Company. He remained there throughout his work career until retiring in 1985. He then continued working as a contract engineer until 1992. Known as "Mr. Wing", Tim was a wing design specialist on every major commercial and military aircraft Boeing developed during this tenure. If it had wings, he was a part of the design team. Among the many aircraft he worked on were: B17, B47, B52, SST, C97, KC135 and all commercial planes from 707-777.

When he wasn't working, he loved to ski, scuba dive and ride his bicycle. He rode in the STP in 1992 and 1993. He was the "Neighborhood carpenter" and even made puppet stages for local teacher friends. Each project was completed with careful planning and detailed drawings from an engineer's mind; some work habits are hard to break.

He is survived by his wife Virginia, Bainbridge Island; two sons: Timothy, Federal Way; Greg, Bainbridge Island; three duaghters: Cathleen Dykstra, Redmond; Janice Donald, Glen Ellyn, IL; Beth Hebert, Bainbridge Island; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were Aug. 1 at the University Presbyterian Church, 4540 15 Ave, NE, Seattle, WA.
