Mrs. Nellie J. (Shackleton) Smith, 78, widow of Henry Bertley Smith, passed away Monday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence B. Kelland in Port Washington, L. I., after a short illness with heart trouble. Mrs. Smith was a native of Ludington, Mich., and came to Wilmington with her husband, who was connected with the Ludington Woodenware company in 1914. Mr. Smith died here April 2, 1918, and since that time Mrs. Smith has lived with her daughters, Mrs. Kelland and Mrs. George Tripp, spending the summers with Mrs. Tripp and the winters with Mrs. Kelland. Last summer she was unable to come to Wilmington on account of poor health. Mrs. Smith is survived by three children, Mrs. George Tripp of Wilmington, Mrs. C.B. Kelland and Howard Smith of Port Washington, L. I., by seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mrs. Smith possessed a pleasing personality, was socially inclined, and with a spirit of helpfulness and cheer, she made friends wherever she went. Her children accompanied the body to Ludington, Mich., Tuesday where the funeral was held Wednesday.
