Glendive--Funeral services for Marie Aasen, age 104, of Glendive, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive, with Pastor Paul Everett officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery.
Marie passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at the Glendive Medical Center Nursing Home.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1892, in Sacred Heart, Minn., the daughter of Halvor and Sigrid Helgeson. She graduated from high school in Sacred Heart in 1912. Marie attended summer sessions at the University of Minnesota to secure her teacher's certificate. She taught in rural schools for 14 years, at times having to ride horseback to those schools.
Marie married Fritz Aasen on Oct. 15, 1925, in Glendive. They farmed in the Richey/Circle area until 1937 when they moved to Glendive. In 1955 they moved to Silver Gate, where they owned and operated the Timberline Lodge for ten summers. They returned to Glendive in 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband in March 1978, and her son, Darrell, in August 1978. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and one brother. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
