Devona Abbott, 89, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Firesteel Nursing Home. Private graveside services will be at 1 pm. Friday, December 28 at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Devona P. Abbott was born on June 14, 1918, to August John and Caroline (Borson) Konze, in Mitchell. She grew up in Ethan and graduated from Ethan High School. On May 19, 1936 Devona was united in marriage to Loren Abbott in Ethan. The couple made there home in Brookings and then to Sioux Falls. In 1943 the couple moved to Mitchell. While Loren was employed with Milwaukee Railroad, Devona was a homemaker and raised their children.

Upon retirement they were active campers and members of the Good Sam club. She loved to travel and go fishing at the Missouri River near Chamberlain. She was also a member of the First Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, John (Betty) Abbott, Bandon, OR; Richard (Pamela) Abbott, Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Jeanette (George) Woltoff, Bandera, TX; and Mercedes Abbott, Seattle, WA; one sister Maxine Richards of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
