Ames Daily Tribune, Monday, January 8, 1951

Funeral services for Andrew J. Abbott of Zearing were held December 26 at the Brouchard Funeral home. Mr. Abbott died at the St. Thomas Mercy hospital in Marshalltown after a lingering Illness.

Interment was in the Conesville cemetery. A life-long resident of Iowa, Mr. Abbott was born near Fair Port in 1864. His first wife, Mary S. Harper, whom he married in 1888 & died in 1895. In 1900 he married the former Anna Grimm. The couple celebrated their-50th wedding anniversary last March.

Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Mrs. Emma Sparrow; a granddaughter, Mrs. Carl Thompson; and four grandchildren.

Zearing, Iowa 1956 History

The Abbott family came to our community in 1905 from Louisa county, Iowa. In 1917, they retired from their farm and moved to Zearing, Iowa.

Andrew Jackson Abbott was born in 1863. We do not have the place of birth. However, he told stories of his life near Conesville, Iowa. Anna E. Grimm, the daughter of James F. and Anna Grimm, was born on March 26, 1867, at Davenport, Iowa. Jack and Anna were married on March 15, 1900.

Jack's first wife died leaving a daughter, Emma. Emma Abbott Sparrow is living in our community in 1955.

Jack died on December 23, 1950. Anna died on February 16, 1953.
