Four Women Shocked
By Lighting Bolt At
Armour Plant In
Elk City, Tuesday


Four women employees of the Armour plant, Elk City, were treated at an Elk City hospital for shock as a result of a lightning strike between 9 an 10 a.m., during a severe electric and rain storm, Tuesday morning.

Hospital authorities reported the women to have had no serious injuries, and apparently only suffered shock.

The women were Mrs. Preston Griffin and Mrs. Harvey Harrelson, Elk City, and Mrs. Warren Morrow and Mrs. Buford Ackley, Hammon.

Joe Slama, plant manager, said the women were working in the building basement when the accident occurred.

Mr. and Mrs. Buford Ackley returned home Oct 31, after a two-week vacation, spent visiting in the homes of their sons, T-Sgt. and Mrs. Carroll Miller in San Antonio, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. James Ackley and children at Panhandle, Texas. They also enjoyed a tour of Carlsbad cavern. In Barstow, Texas, they visited the cemetery, where Mrs. Ackley's Grandfather and Grandmother Hensley reared his family.

In relating about Mr. and Mrs. Buford Ackley's visit to Texas, in last week's Advocate, by an error part of the item was omitted - it should have read - In Barstow, Texas, they went to the cemetery, where Mrs. Ackley's Grandfather and Grandmother Hensley, and an aunt were buried, and at Grand Falls, Texas, they visited the farm, where Mrs. Ackley's Grandfather Hensley reared his family.

Returning this week from several days visit in Texas was Mrs. Boots Ackley. She accompanied the Carroll E. Hensleys, who were visiting here, to Irving for an overnight stay. In Dallas she was a guest of an uncle and aunt, Mr. A. P. Johnson, for two days. The remainder of her two weeks vacation was spent in San Antonia with her son daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Wayne Miller and family. Her return trip to Oklahoma, made by plane, was gift of the Miller and family. Waiting for her in Oklahoma City when she landed was another son, Jamie Ackley. Jean is back home on the farm and Boots has lost his job as head cook.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Ackley, 58-year-old Hammon resident who died Wednesday in an Elk City hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hammon school auditorium .

Officiating at the services will be Rev. Walter J Bfyan(sic), Clinton, and Rev. Ronald Clayton, Wheeler, Tex. Burial will be in the Red Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Ackley was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Oklahoma. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Savage Funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean (Hensley) Ackley who died in an Elk City hospital April 12, 1967, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16, in the Hammon high school auditorium with Bro. Walter P. Bryan, Clinton, and Bro. Ronnie Clayton, Wheeler, Texas officiating. Burial was in Red Hill cemetery.

Kitty Eugenia Hensley was born September 13, 1908. Most of her life was spent in and near Hammon. She was member of the Church of Christ and the American Auxiliary. She was married to Buford Ackley Sept. 10, 1934.

Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, M/S Carroll Wayne Miller, with the U.S. Air Force in South Viet Nam, and James Buford Ackley of Hammon; one sister, Frances H. Ackley, Hammon, two nieces, Joan Tomberlain(sic) and June Ackley, Hammon, one nephew, Carroll Blount, Hammon; one aunt; seven grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Jean loved her family very much and you could see her beaming with pride and goodness as all seven of her grandchildren were with them at Sunday Bible School and worship service.
