Florence May Aaberg
Shelby--Florence May (Hasset) Aaberg, a former Chester resident and restaurant manager, died of natural causes at a local nursing home. She was 97.
Her funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesay at Mountain View Cemetery in Shelby.
She was born June 22, 1898, in Nekoma, N. D., and grew up there. In 1917 she married Carl Aaberg and they farmed near Edmore, N. D., until the early 1930s. They later moved to Webster, N. D., where she worked as a janitor and also ran a restaurant.
In 1945 they moved to Chester where they operated the Golden West Restaurant & Hotel and she also ran a restaurant in Joplin. After her husband's death in 1952, she remained in Chester for the next 20 years, working as a cook for a local farmer.
In 1975 she moved to Shelby and lived at a retirement complex until moving to the nursing home in 1989.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, enjoyed gardening, reading, embroidering, playing cards, and collecting cups and saucers.
Survivors include two daughters, Coral Fyall of Kalispell and Annabelle Fransen of Shelby; a sister, Gladys Rustan of Williston, N. D.; a brother, Jim Hassett, of Devils Lake, N. D.; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, two sons, and two grandchildren.
