AINSWORTH, Kay
MISSOULA – Former Thompson Falls resident, Kay Ainsworth, 90, of Missoula died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Missoula.
Memorial services were conducted Friday, July 18, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Missoula.
Born Alice Katherine Spence Jan. 12, 1907 at Troy, she was the fourth of five children born to early Montana homesteaders Harry and Carrie Mae Spence. Her father died when Kay was two years old. Her mother kept the family together, supporting them by teaching school at Troy, Libby and eventually at Thompson Falls. It was in Thompson Falls that Kay met her future husband, A.L. “Bud” Ainsworth.
Kay attended what was then Montana State University in Missoula for two years. In 1928, she and Bud were married at Thompson Falls. During the first years of their marriage, the young couple remained in Thompson Falls. Later, they lived briefly at Helena and in 1936, moved to Missoula.
Kay was involved in a number of community groups, including Holy Spirit Parish of the Episcopal Church, Chapter H of PEO, the Alph Phi Alumni and the Republican Women’s Organization.
Survivors include her husband, Bud, Missoula; a daughter, Ann Behan and husband, Dick, Lopez Island, Wash.; son, Dick Ainsworth and wife, Linda, Missoula; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family requested memorials to Mountain Valley Hospice House, 10450 Mullan Road, Missoula, MT. 59802, or to the Missoula City-County Library.
Arrangements were by Squire Simmons Carr Funeral Home of Missoula.
