Mrs. Frederick Klonus, one of the pioneer women of Manchester, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. B.W. Grems, in this city, Monday, December 31st, 1917. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic church in this city Thursday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be made in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Augusta Zemanek was born in Wesley, Bohemia, August 28th, 1845, and came to America with her parents when she was 15 years of age. The family at that time located on a farm near Dundee.

She was united in marriage with Frederick Klonus at Dyersville, on October 17, 1862. For five or six years, Mrs. Klonus resided on the farm in Richland township. Following these years she and her family lived in Manchester.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Emma Donnelly of Ryan, Mrs. Matilda Abbott of Lamond, and V.C. Klonus of Winthrop. One daughter, Elizabeth, died in 1893. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Klonus has been in failing health for several years, during which time she was tenderly cared for by the children and her granddaughter, Mrs. Grems, at whose home she passed away. Mrs. Klonus was a devout Catholic, and gave unselfish devotion to her church and those who were attached to her by tender family ties. Those who mourn her have the sincere sympathy of their friends.
