Independence — Robert "Bob" Emerson Adams, 78, former La Crosse resident, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born May 15,1923, in La Crosse to Joyful Osro and Mary Edna (Owens) Adams. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He was in the Pacific Theatre for 27 months, serving with the 754th Tank Battalion.

He married Darlene Basgall on April 4,1959, in La Crosse. He was a resident of La Crosse for more than 70 years before moving to Independence.

He was a retired sanitation engineer. He was a former member of the La Crosse Knights of Columbus Council, the La Crosse VFW, The Advocacy Group of Wilson County and the Eagles Club, Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Robert Adams Jr. and Dwayne Adams, both of Independence, and James Adams of Holyrood; one sister, Wanda Schlegel of Independence; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded by two brothers, Owen Adams and Carl Adams.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will at La Crosse City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association, in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.
