Early day settlers north of Hammer organized the Ferkingstad congregation in the sod house of T.M. Stave in April 1896. The Ferkingstad Lutheran Church building was built in the fall of 1899. The church took its name from one of the parishes in Koarmoi, Norway, because most of the original members came from that locality. The charter members are listed on the photo I will share of the monument at the Ferkingstad cemetery which was the location of the church building before it disbanded in 1963 because a new congregation was organized at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, South Dakota.
The charter members on the monument include the 2 brothers:
T.M. Stave
Didrick Stave
