FRANK ABBOTT, 74, DIES; NANTUCKET'S LAST CRIER
NANTUCKET-Feb 3 AP-Frank Abbott, 74, last of the Nantucket Town Criers, died at a hospital here last night. He had been in a convalescent home for the past six years. Mr. Abbott was known to countless Summer visitors for his daily appearances in the business and residential districts. he wore a top hat and frock coat. He called the news of the day and and announced coming events, meanwhile ringing a handbell. each Christmas season he played the role of Santa Claus for island children. Mr. Abbott was born in Provincetown.
