Ortie Adams, 63, died Thursday, September 30, in the Highlands Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a resident of Barnetts Creek. Mr. Adams was born July 15, 1913 in Floyd County, the son of the late Thomas and Alice Hackworth Adams. He was employed by the Paintsville Grocery Company and owned a grocery store. He had worked for the Johnson County Board of Education for 16 years. His first Wife, Dora Wright Adams, preceded him in death on July 8, 1973. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Burton Adams; three sons, Wayne, Danny and Ricky, all of Barnetts Creek; five daughters, Ruby VanHoose, Sue Williams, Lynda Laferty and Mildred Caudill, all of Barnetts Creek, and Fay Crace of Lexington. Two sisters, Icie Smith of Claypool, IN, and Eva Smith of Akron, IN and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2, in the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Earl Gillispie and John H. Woods officiating. Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
