Russell Ray Aalbers, 69, of Monroe, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Aalbers will be on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Visitation for Mr. Aalbers will be on Friday, Oct. 3, at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe from 2 to 8 p.m. There will be no family time.
Memorials may be given to the Monroe Emergency Unit and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of Tone and Bessie (Robison) Aalbers, Russell was born at home on Jan. 25, 1939, in Marion County. Russell proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Russell moved to the Detroit area and spent his career working for the Ford Motor Company in the hydraulics division. After retiring from Ford, Russell moved back to the Monroe area. Russell enjoyed working with his hands, fishing and having a good time with his friends. Russell’s sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was a member of the American Legion of Taylor, Mich., and Monroe.
Those left to honor his memory are his son Robbie Tone Aalbers of Romulus, Mich.; his brothers and sisters, Shirley (Ralph) McGregor of Reasnor, Dick (Barb) Aalbers of Monroe, Mary (Ron) Scherer of Johnston, Larry Aalbers of Olympia, Wash., Betty Aalbers of Pella, Charlotte (Curt) Prather of Henderson, Neb., Bruce Aalbers of Monroe, Sally (Steve) Knoll of Topeka, Kan., and Jerry (Sandy) Aalbers of Pella; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen Aalbers; brother, Fred Aalbers; and his nephew, Craig Aalbers.
