Bill was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Burke County to the late Dolphus M. and Cora Berry Abee.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church Hildebran, where he served as a Deacon and held various leadership roles in the Sunday School Department for 42 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Merton, Gordon, Ray, Earl and Wade Abee; sisters, Alberta Abee, Marie Abee and Neverta Benfield.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Carswell Abee, of the home; one son, Joel Abee and wife, Renee, of Hickory; one daughter, Melinda Abee Ward, of Hickory; grandchildren, Erin Abee Wall and husband, Daniel, of Rutherford College, Emily Abee Hudson and husband, Blain, of Hickory, Megan Ward Houston and husband, Chad, of Hickory and Michelle Ward and fianc‚, Josh Sain, of Hickory; great grand-children, Dustin Hudson and wife, Ashlen, of Connelly Springs, Jacob Hudson, Davis Wall, Jackson Wall, Rhett Houston, Sawyer Hous-ton; and one great-great grandchild, Emma Hudson.
Also surviving are very special friends and neighbors, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard Duckworth, Sr. and Vera Carswell Duckworth, of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Hildebran, with the Revs. Ron Arndt and Blain Hudson officiating.
Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Hildebran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening, Saturday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 8831 Old Hwy 10 Hildebran, NC 28637.
